The legendary quality guru, Padamshree Chandra Mohan, was awarded the Life Time Achievement Award at the 8th North West QualTech Awards ceremony held at CII here today.

Mr. S. Sandilya, Chairman of Eicher Group, who was the chief guest on the occasion, presented the award to Chandra Mohan.

Chandra Mohan had been managing director and vice chairman of Punjab Tractors Ltd and Swaraj Mazda Limited for about 28 years, and has rich experience of 52 years. He is credited with developing the Indian tractor named ‘Swaraj’ using totally indigenous technology.

Even after retirement he has remained active in the manufacturing field and serves on the Board of various companies, and has been actively involved in promoting the practice of ‘Total Quality Management’ in the manufacturing sector.

It was through his initiative that the first ever degree programme in TQM for the working professionals from the industry was set up in 2004 in collaboration with the Punjab Technical University as a centre of excellence – PTU’s Gian Jyoti School of TQM & Entrepreneurship. He was the brain behind instituting the North-West QualTech Awards as annual feature for the last eight years engaging manufacturing and service sectors in quality initiatives.

In his acceptance remarks, Chandra Mohan said that there is no other way to optimize utilization of organizational resources and creating a customer-sensitive team through implementation of total quality management.
