Suresh Chander Pal

Dy. General Manager
Sintex Industries Ltd.
[Final Semester]
When I was in 11th standard, I learnt that there is a B.Tech course, which one can join after Pre- Engineering (Now 10+2) and one becomes an Engineer. My parents provided me their best support and infrastructure. But unfortunately, I missed admission to an engineering college just by 0.5%marks (merit system). I tried many entrance exams but as I belong to a very remote village, with no basic infrastructure for schooling, I was not smart enough to score marks to get admission to an engineering college. Based on 12th class result, I joined Punjab Institute of Textile Technology at Amritsar and finished my Diploma in 1984. I tried to do AMIE after my Diploma but it somehow did not work.

I was lucky enough to get placed through campus interview and got associated with a very progressive and

forward looking Vardhman Group at a basic salary of Rs. 8000/- p.m. I still remember the day when I was awarded “highest annual increment” in comparison to my fellow colleagues who had a B.Tech Degree. I owe this success to my personal desire to be recognized as a performer. I rose to many levels from Officer to Executive, from Manager to Senior Manager and I was quite satisfied with my growth.

Probably this was not enough for me. It used to hurt me somewhere, especially while going through policy decisions defining growth opportunities for entry level as well as for existing Graduates and Diploma Engineers. Though not specific but gap used to be significant.

Suddenly, B.Tech. in Industrial Engineering & Management (Spl. in TQM) came as a blessing in disguise to me. Many thanks to Mr. Sachit Jain, Executive Director, Vardhman Group of Industries, for his motivation, encouragement, support and sponsorship to this course. Initially, I was a little reluctant to join the course due to various apprehensions regarding its usefulness in acquiring knowledge and, most importantly, its application in the Textile industry. But let me confess that all my apprehensions vanished with every passing semester. The knowledge gained through Study Material, Contact Sessions, Quiz, Class Participation, Assignments, and Library books have helped me a lot in my personal growth, development and shaping up of my career.

Knowledge acquired during my association with PTU’s Gian Jyoti School of TQM & Entrepreneurship has given a kick start to my career, where my position has got elevated from Sr. Manager to Sr. General Manager with a package of almost four times in three years time. Also it has opened new ventures for me wherein I have shifted my specialization from Production and Maintenance to Improvement & Development with focus on TQM and TPM.

Many, thanks to the entire management team of PTU’s Gian Jyoti School of TQM and Entrepreneurship for fulfilling my dreams and making me proud. All faculty members of the School are very thorough in their field, having vast working experience of similar nature in industries. Lot of effort and pain has gone into designing the Study Material of the course.

It’s a universal truth that nothing is free in this world. I completed my 4th and 5th Semester by coming all the way from Ahmedabad to Mohali. Soon, I will be joining Indorama, in Egypt, as a Senior General Manager.

When you discover your mission, you will feel its demand. It will fill you with enthusiasm and a burning desire to work it on.
