Sona Koyo Steering Systems Ltd, Gurgaon has won the Vardhman Quality Navigator Award at the 8th North West QualTech Convention organised by the PTU’s Gian Jyoti School of TQM & Entrepreneurship at CII here today. Sona Koyo, the last year’s runners up, won the trophy under the Large Business category with turnover of over Rs.500 crores. The company’s team was shortlisted out of 50 competitors and was amongst the 9 in its category that worked on reducing in house rejection in their manufacturing process upto 75%. The first runners-up in this category is Reliance Industries Ltd, Hoshiarpur which implemented quality systems to reduce the consumption of steam in their manufacturing process resulting in a saving of Rs.112 lakh per annum. Philips Electronics India Ltd, Mohali and Subros Ltd., Manesar shared the second runners up position in the Large Business category. In the category of Medium Industry having turnover between Rs.150 to 500 crores, Trident Pioneer Trophy was picked up by Federal-Mogul Goetze India Ltd, Patiala with Minda Industries Pvt. Ltd. Gurgaon, and Autolive India Pvt. Ltd., Gurgaon, getting the 1st and 2nd Runners Up position. In the third category of Small industry having turnover less than Rs.150 crores, Maffick Instrument Pvt. Ltd., Ambala got the Winsome Quality Pathfinder Award, with the first runners up being Grace Locks Ltd., Chandigarh, and Param Tech Industries, Mohali, as second runner-up. In the Services sector category, Tata Teleservices Ltd., New Delhi received the Educomp Quality Innovator trophy, with IDS Infotech Ltd., Mohali, and Tata Teleservice Ltd. New Delhi also in second and third positions. The awards were presented by Mr. S. Sandilya, Chairman of Eicher Group. PTU’s Gian Jyoti Institute of TQM & Entrepreneurship is the first School of Excellence that has instituted the North-West QualTech Awards eight years back to encourage the companies in the region to adopt total quality management practices resulting in tremendous financial gains.
