The lush green campus of PTU’s Gian Jyoti School of TQM & Entrepreneurship, the first School of Excellence of Punjab Technical University, came alive with celebrations on 10th November 2012 as the School held its 4th Annual Convocation. This year, 264 students received their degrees in B.Tech.-Industrial Engineering and Management, with specialisation in Total Quality Management. It was a day of fond memories and achievements for the students who received their well-earned degrees with much excitement. A unique feature of this Convocation Ceremony was the administration of ‘Oath’ to the new graduates. This oath is their lifelong commitment to pursue high ethical values, achieve world-class Quality, and make “Made in India” a proud label that attracts confidence and trust. Mr. Manish Trehan, CEO of the School, presented the Annual Report highlighting the School’s multi-faceted achievements. He reported that the graduating B.Tech. students undertook 66 projects in the final semester, in their own organisations, which resulted in average financial savings of Rs. 30 lacs per project per annum. He highlighted that this unique application focused B. Tech programme for working Diploma holders and Science graduates, which was launched in 2005, has received an excellent response from industry. Addressing the graduating students and distinguished invitees from industry and academia, the Chief Guest, Mr R K Saboo, Chairman, KDDL said that, for India, there is an immense opportunity to leverage its enormous resources, inventory of skills and intellect for the betterment of the country. He stressed the need for inculcating and upholding high ethical standards in professional and personal lives. Padma Shri Chandra Mohan, Chairman, Governing Council of the School, hoped that the talent which comes out of the School continues to make a positive contribution towards improving the competitiveness of our enterprises. The Indian corporate sector is at the crossroads; some will make it, and others will perish, he added. Dr. Prabhjot Kaur, Incharge Mohali Campus, PTU was the Guest of Honour in this Convocation. Mr. J S Bedi, Chairman, Gian Jyoti Institute of Management & Technology and Member, Governing Council proposed a vote of thanks.
